Cardiac arrest can strike suddenly and without warning, and in such moments, immediate intervention with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) can be the deciding factor between life and death. Globally, especially in many Western countries, CPR training is not just encouraged but mandated—integrated into school curricula, required for healthcare professionals and various occupations, and often linked to public certifications such as driver’s licenses. In India, the awareness and implementation of public CPR training are still growing, and initiatives like the Lifesaver CPR program organized by ISCCM Chennai represent an important step forward.

On April 4th, 2025, ISCCM Chennai, conducted a comprehensive CPR training program at Sairam Engineering College, Chennai. The session was attended by 150 enthusiastic engineering students who actively participated in an engaging, structured training session. The event began with an introductory talk on the importance of Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR in emergency response, followed by a hands-on session conducted across six well-organized skill stations. The students responded with eagerness and curiosity, clearly reflecting the need and impact of such training among the youth. This initiative is part of ISCCM Chennai’s larger goal to extend CPR education to schools and public spaces, reinforcing the importance of community preparedness in emergencies.

Events like this underline the crucial role of intensivists not only within the ICU but also in community outreach, helping bridge the gap between specialized medical knowledge and public empowerment. The positive response received has encouraged ISCCM Chennai to continue advocating for wider CPR training and to expand the program’s reach in the months to come.
